## Overview
Location: British Virgin Islands, Caribbean
### Summary
Necker Island is a 30-hectare (74-acre) island in the British Virgin Islands, just north of Virgin Gorda. The island is entirely owned by Sir [Richard Branson](Richard%20Branson.md), chairman of the [Virgin Group](Virgin%20Group.md), and is part of the Virgin Limited Edition portfolio of luxury properties. The whole island operates as a resort and can accommodate up to 40 guests, with additional room for six children.[^citation]
In 2008, it cost $322,000/wk[^Necker2008] to rent the island, in 2023 it's "from $80,000[^Necker2023] per night."

#### 2011 Fire
In 2011, a tropical storm started a fire that burned the Branson island home to the ground. Acress Kate Winslett carried Branson's 90-year-old mother to safety.
