## Greetings & Announcements
1. The index has gotten a much-needed aesthetic change. (Again, I know.) It should be slightly more functional on mobile.
2. I took away the "light mode" toggle because I'm a dictator.
3. I have simplified a lot of my navigation headers
![[Home Page 🏡#How+to+Navigate]]
4. I haven't gotten a ton of work done on the index because I had a little bit of an emergency that took up a lot of time. One of my external drives that I've had since 2009 started malfunctioning. And while it should have been obvious it was going to go on the fritz, I had no contingency plan for it and a lot of the stuff on there wasn't backed up with any redundancies because it was old and took forever to transfer stuff and sounded like a plane engine taking off. So anyway. That was my yesterday for the most part. :P
5. I'm going to start doing a series of instructional videos next week on how to use Obsidian and/or other IDEs like Visual Studio to record stuff you want to be able to find easily. I'm not sure if it'll be part of the stream or something separate yet. Everyone that has started using it has loved it. I genuinely would love nothing more than to see more people using something like this to connect the dots so we can collaborate more together on digs.

## Political Ads from Individuals
It's no secret that people are paid to post on social media by political groups. Left-wing or right-wing, it doesn't matter. The money is usually funneled down through PACs.

So, if you want to know who is paying who as far as DeSantis and Trump goes, or whoever, that's a place to start. And when I'm done with my initial discussion points, if you want, you can suggest some ideas of people and we can investigate together.
But I have something else I want to talk about first.
## The Grift™
Getting called a grifter is a rite of passage on the internet. You're a grifter. I'm a grifter. EVERYONE'S A GRIFTER!
But... some are grifters more than others.
I see a lot of accusations thrown around on a daily basis about people getting paid to post things on social media. What I want to talk to you comes down to something even more insidious (in my opinion) than your typical election season fodder.
**==Why?==**
Because it's all the time. Nonstop. Year-round.
Your social media feed, what you see, and what you are flooded with, is bought and paid for by an assortment of groups.
Now, some of you might think that this isn't a big deal, but I assure you it is.
By being obligated to post things at certain times about pre-determined topics, that means that as important news is breaking, as important resulting discussions are going on, your timeline is flooded with timed, pre-planned, clickbait posts from people who may or may not even care about what they are posting about.
They post it because they are getting paid to.
### ==**How do I know?**==
Because I've had offers. Here's one of the first ones I ever got back in April 2021 from a group you might know called "Resist the Mainstream."
At first, I was open to the idea, because at the time I was flat broke. If you've followed me for a while, you know that I have a lot of principles about money and whether I'll take it in exchange for what I do.
But in April 2021, I had recently been laid off, lost my large following on Twitter due to the account ban, and was working on trying to go at being a "content creator" or whatever you want to call what I do full time, and I was living off my savings, which were dwindling fast.
So this was appealing.
I couldn't locate the original contact email, but it boils down to getting an email offering a sponsorship in exchange for posting on social media. In this case, Gab.
So imagine: "Hey L, we want to sponsor you and want to talk about it."
>
"Oh hey sure, what did you have in mind? I do follow your page already, big fan of the work you do."
>
"So we at RTM would like to sponsor you at a monthly price in exchange for sharing 10 of our stories every day on your Gab page."
>
That sounds like it could be a great arrangement. I do have a few questions:
- Would they need to be specifically just a repost, or would you mind me reposting and adding my own comments from time to time? I don't mind doing just reposts here and there, but a lot of what I do comes down to commentary also, and I don't want to be inauthentic to my reader base.
- Ten posts per day is a fine amount, I'm not necessarily worried about that, and looking back at your timeline over the last day, nothing from that seems to be anything I wouldn't want to share, BUT I also don't want to be beholden to reposting the same thing more than once or twice. Again, the reasoning for this is because I don't want to alienate my reader base. I have worked outside of other outlets and groups for that very reason, and they follow me because they trust me and I don't clog up their feeds with nonsense. So would this involve multiple reposts?
- As a compromise on some of this, I do a daily roundup of top stories and post them on my Gab, Telegram, and Parler accounts. I also do a weekly livestream for a couple of hours where I do a rundown of those news roundups and feature the posts and sites I discuss as I do it. So, by doing this with you, you'd be a part of my news roundups every day and then featured on my livestreams once a week.
- How does that sound? And what sort of sponsorship fee would I be able to expect? Just curious. I like to ask questions, and again I've been blessed to be able to do this on my own and without compromising my integrity. I wouldn't even consider this if I didn't think you weren't putting out good information, but you are, so I'm happy to discuss.

Hey L,
I will have ----- from my team email you the stories every day. They won't be reposts as you will post them directly and you are more than welcome to add your comment to each one. Also, please note that the timing of posting these stories is very important and that they need to be shared faster because we need to be ahead of the game.
This won't involve posting the same stories multiple times, don't worry. We do clickbait, but we don't mislead people with the headlines. We truly believe in what we put out.
Can you please send me a link to your Telegram and Parler accounts?
Speaking of the fee, let's start with $1000 for the first month and see how it goes from there.
I am also happy to help you with everything regarding digital marketing, and I highly suggest you start your newsletter.
Let me know if you have any questions.
### Needless to say, I didn't take the money.
And I really really needed it. I still could use it, but it wasn't worth it for me to lose the trust people have in what I post or say. I don't post things because I'm paid to. I'm not sending you clickbait to read.
And this isn't necessarily directed specifically to Resist the Mainstream, because they're only one of many who do this. Let's expand the discussion.

## There are ways to do this "right."
Some media outlets will give influencers a tag to add to the end of an article that they can share at will. So they get a kickback, but there's no posting requirements.
### Takeaways:
- Check URLs.
- Check who's posting them repeatedly.
- Are they affiliated with any PACs? Nonprofits?
- Who owns those? Who do they support?
