On his first day in office, he issued an executive order that ended various racial equity programs in Virginia public schools, and banned discussion within the state's school system of concepts such as critical race theory (CRT) that his administration deemed divisive. Later in his term, Youngkin signed one of the first statewide laws in the nation allowing parents to opt their children out of educational material that is deemed sexually explicit.
