I will be out of town next week from Thursday through Monday for Threadfest 3 in Dallas, TX. I am unsure exactly how able I will be to stream on the road or if I'll have the energy (ironic, I know) to be able to pull off the panels/talks as well as doing those two shows. Sorry, love u. 2. I have enjoyed very much the first two episodes of Gamer Words, which will continue airing on Wednesday nights as my schedule permits. I might ultimately make a separate channel for the streams, but am unsure as to what is the right move. So in the meantime, if that's annoying to you, sorry it's all mashed together. ## Segments ### Ground Rules It's no secret that there has been a bit of friction over the last couple of weeks, particularly in the Rumble chat. But more broadly, this sort of restless irritability can be felt all over. I do not want that to carry over to here. I have fallen short of conveying my expectations out of you as well as myself for a while now, so I'm going to do so once again for both my sake and yours. This is a space that seeks open dialogue, regardless of your views. You might not like that, but that's my call, and that's the way it is. As far as I am concerned, as long as you discuss whatever it is we're talking about respectfully to one another, we'll have no issues. HOWEVER If it must be said, I will be the one to say it: It is pointless to endeavor to discuss certain topics here, for the most part. I do tend to prioritize things that are as tangible as possible, concrete, and digs that build upon small axioms. Topics like "men vs. women" without a specific anchor for the discussion are not really suitable here. This isn't a battle of the sexes, "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" type show. It just isn't. FURTHERMORE If you have to insult the person you are having a discussion with in order to "make your point," you're not doing a very good job, are you? If you have to resort to what I call "bumper sticker" phrases rather than supplying supporting sources (where applicable) then you're probably not equipped for healthy discussion. I have made some adjustments in moderators for the time being, and will be making the final call on any timeouts and/or bans, aside from bots. I don't want to police the chats, but I have been probably a little TOO hands off when it comes to requests out of you to keep it civil. But I do make this request now, and hope that you understand that part of what I love the most about doing this show in the first place is sharing ideas and having discussions on topics that you simply would be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. I promise to step up my game if you will. As always, I encourage you to take the information and topics discussed tonight and research it for yourself. Come to your own conclusions. Add your two cents wherever you like. Anyone telling you what the truth is with zero supporting evidence or at least plausible supporting sources for theories, or claiming they have all the right answers all the time, is lying to you. This is a team effort all the way. It is not me vs. you. It is not viewer vs. viewer. It is **us vs. the problem**. Always. ### Dexter Reed [WaPo Archive](https://archive.ph/dkMyj) ![center](https://i.postimg.cc/d1ds7rp2/BDE-Capture-19.png) Plainclothes Chicago police officers fired nearly 100 shots in less than one minute, killing 26-year-old black man Dexter Reed after he appeared to fire a gun at police and wound an officer's arm during a fatal traffic stop in Humboldt Park last month, according to police oversight officials. Chicago's Civilian Office of Police Accountability, known as COPA, released body camera footage on Tuesday of the fatal shooting of Reed by Chicago police officers on March 21 in the 3800 block of West Ferdinand Street. Reed had been pulled over for allegedly not wearing a seatbelt. COPA stated that preliminary evidence "appears to confirm" that Reed fired first, prompting officers to respond with 96 shots fired in a span of 41 seconds. The agency has recommended to CPD Superintendent Larry Snelling that four officers involved be relieved of their police powers during the investigation. AP reported that while "the videos show multiple perspectives, including from the officer who was shot," there isn't "clear footage of Reed shooting." A gun was later recovered from the vehicle. "Each use of deadly force must be evaluated by examining the totality of circumstances, including the officer's actions prior to their use of force," said COPA's First Deputy Chief Administrator Ephraim Eaddy. The CPD stated on Tuesday that it is fully cooperating with COPA's ongoing investigation. "We cannot make a determination on this shooting until all the facts are known and this investigation has concluded," the statement reads. Mayor Brandon Johnson described the footage of Reed's death as "deeply disturbing" during an impromptu appearance at City Hall, where he was joined by Andrea Kersten, the head of COPA, and Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx. "I'm personally devastated to see yet another young Black man lose his life during an interaction with the police," Johnson said, adding that shooting a police officer could never be condoned or excused. Johnson stated that he had spoken with members of Reed's family in the days before the video was released and visited the wounded officer. He was 26 years old. > > According to a statement released days later by COPA, 5 tactical officers surrounded Reed's car and an "exchange of gunfire" occurred. The Sun-Times later reported that over 50 gunshots were detected by ShotSpotter. > > Body cam footage released today reveals that 96 shots were fired at Dexter Reed's car over a period of 41 sec. Officers continued to fire after Dexter Reed exited his vehicle and fell to the ground. This occurred in the middle of a residential neighborhood. The excessive number of bullets fired towards Reed's car are representative of the callous and careless way in which police conduct themselves in neighborhoods such as Humboldt Park. > > Police Dist. 11, where Dexter Reed was pulled over and executed, is where police initiate traffic stops the most. In 2023, over 56K stops - 10% of all traffic stops in the city - were carried out in the district. It's no coincidence that this district is located on the West Side, where long-term disinvestment has led to high rates of poverty, unemployment and violence. > > The racist character of these traffic stops is undeniable. An analysis of traffic stops by ABC-7's I-team found that of more than 2 million traffic stops by Chicago police since '16, 60% were Black drivers, even though Black residents make up 27% of the city's population. White drivers made up 13% of traffic stops, and are 32% of Chicago's population. > > Another study, published by JAMA in '22, found that men aged 18-29 living in the 60624 ZIP code - where Dexter was murdered - faced a higher risk of dying by gun violence than US soldiers sent to Afghanistan and Iraq. > > Meanwhile, in nearby West Humboldt Park, a new $128 million cop academy was built in '23. It's clear, as Coretta Scott King said in 1968, that "our policy at home is to try to solve social problems through military means just as we've done abroad." > > Dexter Reed was a beloved friend, brother, son, and human. He's remembered and mourned by his family, friends, teammates and coaches. > > Justice for Dexter Reed! ✊🏾 > > #BLM #BlackLivesMatter [psl\_chicago | Instagram, Facebook | Linktree](https://linktr.ee/psl_chicago) [Party for Socialism and Liberation - Wikiwand](https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Party_for_Socialism_and_Liberation) #### Further Reading [New York, Chicago, Waste Millions on Gunshot Detection Tech, Privacy Group Says - Bloomberg](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-07-14/new-york-chicago-waste-millions-on-gunshot-detection-tech-privacy-group-says) [ShotSpotter and the Misfires of Gun Detection Technology — S.T.O.P. - The Surveillance Technology Oversight Project](https://www.stopspying.org/shotspotter) %%Footer Starts Here%% --- <center><img src="https://archive.is/do5ay/df25cfff93575f174c387ac9f4c64744da0fadb9.png" alt="Keep digging!" height="100px"></center> --- ## Tags ### Linked Pages & Footnotes - Everytown + ShotSpotter overlap? - Jenette Wilson Frederick Haynes Rainbow Push Coalition - Reverend John Abercrombie
